When the enricher is pushed all the way down/off, the bike has a pretty high idle. If I pull it up just slightly, the idle drops way down and gets really slow/lopy. Then if I keep pulling the enricher farther up, the idle goes back up into the normal high enriched idle. Bike otherwise seems to run fine. Is this normal at all or does something sound out of adjustment? Also wondering if it’s okay to keep riding it like this for now and what position I should leave the enricher in once the bike is warm. know not a huge difference we talking here but I’m kinda torn on which direction to go. Current shocks are 11 inches so even a 13 inch would be 2 up in the back. I’m doing plus 2 in the front. I’m an average sized guy. \n\nI didn’t wanna go too aggressive w this bike. I’m keeping the stock Evo and going for an oem plus look. More cruiser style. Didn’t wanna go with a super performance vibe. For those reasons I was leaning 13 inch but then I saw some videos of guys my size running 14 inch and so now I’m kinda torn. \n\nI’ve included a few photos. One of my current 11 inch shocks. Blue bike is 13 inches and power plant is either 13.75 or maybe 14 I’m not sure. It’s a Kerker supertrapp for an Evo Softail. I’m going to pick it up this week for super cheap and am not even sure it fits but I’ve seen many people run a 2-1 from a softail on an FXR. I just can’t find much at all on this pipe and the controls it’s fit with. Thanks for the input. So i got this ‘89 FXRS that was ‘rebuilt’ 4000km ago. After i got from the last owner, it started to smoke really bad at any given point and i said okay we gotta open it up and see.

I'm trying to diagnose a drivetrain noise and would appreciate any advice from people familiar with early FXRs. \n \nBike \n1984 Harley-Davidson FXRS \n17,575 miles \nMaintenance history unknown \n \nSymptoms \nNo transmission noise in 1st or 2nd gear. \nAfter shifting into 3rd gear, a grinding / metal-cutting noise starts when I apply throttle. \nThe sound seems to come from the derby cover / clutch area on the left side. \nAs soon as I completely roll off the throttle, the noise disappears. \nIf I apply throttle again, the noise immediately returns. \nIn 4th gear, the same noise is still there but noticeably quieter. \nI haven't confirmed whether it happens in 5th gear yet. \nWhile the noise is happening, if I pull the clutch in, the noise disappears instantly. \nThe sound is similar a full rebuild and V2 on my FXR, figured I'll do a photo dump of what's going on:\n\n1. Frame after stripping and blasting, I was going to just clean off areas I need to fabricate on, but couldn't deal with it, so got it blasted straight up.\n2. The setup before the rebuild. I sheared a transmission to motor bolt (Evo style w/ adaptor), right after changing to a tyre that gripped instead of lit up. I dont think its a coincidence.\n3. Im changing the whole motor setup. It was a stock CVO110 w/ 255's. Theres 3 fundamental problems (imo) to consider when doing these. And its too big of a head chamber size, notorious valve issues (spring pressure), and large flat piston with low compression. I took the CVO heads off, sent off a set of brand new 103 heads to get CNC ported and bigger valves, sorted springs etc. \n4. I lowered the deck heigh on my cylinders as they were sitting quite tall, with pistons sitting into the cylinders. Between zeroing deck height, smaller Headgasket, tighter head chamber, I can get a decent setup with my selected cams.\n5. The old swingarm has been taken off, bunch of the stuff sold off, and has funded the purchase of a new alloy swingarm setup which im keen for. This was partly because....\n6. The touring swingarm + RS shock position meant Id need to run mega long shocks to get height. Not ideal. The new swingarm also gets rid of the concentric adjusters.\n7. Likewise Ive sold my USD fork, and have a mint 39mm setup. chrome lowers, thunderstars, brembos etc, polished and slightly modified triples, racetech internals. \n8. I designed up a stronger Burly soft nut because the one they supplied cracked before it even got to minimum torque spec. Apparently a very common issue that people let me know about, so I threw the design up for free on Bambulabs. \n9. Trimmed up the ARP's for the clearance required to run on 39mm narrowglide, Braking 5 spoke rotors, and custom little wheel spacers.\n10. Better pic of spacers, wanted to do captive style nuts like off of sport bikes (Where it stays with the wheel so you're not fiddling around on install). Had to settle for just the look instead.\n11. Current issue im working through, rear master cylinder fabrication and placement. I could run an early plate style, but then you run into exhaust mount issues, so you're kind of just picking which one you want to deal with. This is my current idea.\n12. Vertical style bungs. Much lower profile, everything out of the way, clean alignment with the brake pedal, easily replaceable with a common MC. Just figuring if I do a bung style like this with a little thread/bolt on top, or drill into frame and do it internally. \n13. Spent an inordinate amount of time designing a guage mount for my Motoscope Pro dash. I intend to either send off for CNC or get it SLM printed and polished up. This was an early design.\n14. Throwing around ideas for the back of the gauge. \n15. Kinda the inspo for that, needs refinement though. \n16. Louvered side covers SO new old stock that the plastic is brittle and stuck. Its been fun chipping away this...\n17. Cockpit setup at the moment. Big als risers, Slyfox bars. I got into the rabbit hole on bar geometry, and had some setups on hand that made it obvious it wouldnt suit the direction I want. Powerplant bars, Thrashin bars etc no good. This bar was available locally (Aus) and has the right geometry. Id call it neutral, sitting between thrashing Aggressive Bars, and their Mid/High Bend Bars that have way more sweep than I need/like. \n18. Just general fab work for the TC conversion. Was thinking about an S&S 111 but am starting to lean away due to their dogshit QC. \nSeems like a straight forward way to go twin cam without needing to molest my frame. Only two questions I really have are \n\n1: how do you like it in terms of power n’ reliability? \n2: what type of exhaust did you end up running? \n\nSeems like since it’s an EVO mount motor but because it’s still a twin cam, some exhaust length modifications would need to be made to the headers or just deal with a higher mounted exhaust and fabricate taller mounts throughout the rear portions Thinking about finding an older vetter fairing and seeing if I can try fixing that on myself or have brackets custom fabricated for it, but not sure how that'd work. I see these windjammers, liberators far cheaper on facebook than any other kind. I'd rather take my chances with that than a cheapo replica you could get for $3-500. As far as I know, any quality modern reproduction will run me over $1,000. No fork mounted fairings because of personal preference.\n\nHonestly, I don't even need a fairing my upper body never gets tired on the highway, but I'd like to see what it's like. Only thing that gets me is the wind at my legs on long trips, I know some of these vetter fairings have lower fairings. There are also aftermarket covers that block wind from getting through your crashbars, but I'm running forwards w/ no crashbars.\n\n \nAdvice appreciated, even if it deviates away from the original
