The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
\n\nAs for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.

Unlocking to have pride for accomplishment is understandable, but its a Star wars game and locking VADER and LUKE which are the core part of the franchise is a tad bit Weird isn't it?
\n\nI dont mind if they got locked but 60k credits is way too much. hopefully these numbers are fixed in release day.
Exactly. The heroes can be locked, but it's the fact that we have to lose out on crates and progression while saving up hours and hours worth of credits. If the price was lowered to 10 or 20k, people would be a lot happier.
\n\nYes there's challenges to give us a credit boost, but once they're used up, we're pretty much SOL.

What's the difference between this and end game content?

Okay let's take Call of Duty for example. There might be a cool gun available at level 40 that you're really excited about. Leveling through the game, you'll eventually unlock it through experience while also progressing towards other guns/equipment/etc. To add to this, the better you become, the faster you progress.
\n\nNow Battlefront 2. The most iconic characters are locked behind a huge credit lock. Each game will end with you gaining anywhere from 50-350 credits a match. Vader, Luke, and others are costing up to 60,000. And regardless of how well you do, everyone gets the same amount of credits in the end.
\n\nNow you might be thinking, "Well that's not THAT bad, I'll get a hero eventually."
\n\nExcept the only way to progress in this game is through lootboxes, and these cost anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 each. You have to choose to either lose out on game progression, or save up hours upon hours of grinding for credits, just for one hero.
\n\nWe have to remember that these games have a younger base, and also an older base with jobs and families, who aren't going to want to grind for hours and hours (Without ANY sort of progression) just so they can play their favorite character.
\n\nI wrote a bit more than I expected, but I hope that cleared it up a little.
With this current greedy gaming industry, I don't think it will get fix until the whole industry crash like in 1983.
Another crash is coming, at least for companies like EA. There’s way too much entertainment out there for much less dollars per hour. AAA games that inflate their dev and marketing budget, and fuck over the customer to get the money back are fast becoming extinct.
But it’ll sell well, I can guarantee it. Look at COD WW2 it’s top of the steam charts and selling loads and this will too. Loot boxes and this model of games is not going away, it’s just getting worse.

I think the main concern out of anything is that you're charging £69.99 for a game, that half the features are locked behind a "pay wall". I know you're going to say "you can earn it", but 2 days to earn a hero which can be bought in 2 minutes, pretty much counts as being locked behind a pay wall
2 days worth of gameplay... not just playing a bit for 2 days
This. Thats 48 hours so if you just play like 3 hours a day it would take 16 days to unlock Vader, not all the heroes just Vader. Thats fucking bullshit.
\n\nAnd better be saving 100k for fan favorite heroes like Grievous, Obi Wan or Anakin if you want to play them before Battlefront 3 comes out.

79.99 dollaridoos here in canada, it feels like paying money to get into a club to continue to pay money.
Yea, spend hours upon hours earning meager credits per match to not use those credits to unlock loot crates only to finally be able to spend it on unlocking a single hero. That will really make me feel accomplished as I have to repeat that process all over again for another hero all the while my classes have no cards to use cause i've been saving up all the credits for 1 hero.
