If privacy and anonymity arent your goals, however, i2p might be too unnecessarily slow for your liking, but try it nonetheless!\n\nClient and server tunnels are slightly misleadingly named as the architecture is still p2p, but client tunnels send outbound requests while server tunnels receive requests. Then, you just need to make your program send stuff to the server port you specify in the tunnel config. To listen, use the b32 address of the generated server tunnel in your client tunnel destination and use that port in your program to listen to it.\n\nIm not and expert so im not entirely sure if this would work, but have a go and let me know if it works! Basically when u start it, u're downloading a list of servers which are used then. It's also fixed to 3 hops (usually) and the communication from you takes the same route as the answer from the server to you. thus it's theoretically possible to attack the 'central list of nodes' or to correlate the data if u have access to the entry & exitnode at the same time (even tho pretty hard because of so many users, but we know that some three lettered organisations have ALOT of power / running ALOT of nodes)\n\nI2P doesn't have these. it's more like a peer mesh network. EVERYONE who uses it, is a relay at the same time - and most of them even kind of mirror data from the services - why? because: when u connect to I2P u basically 'crawl' all other nodes and their connections and so on, that way u 'explore' the network (makes it slow to start, but at the same time there is no 'central list of nodes' u need to trust into). the neat part is the way of connecting tho - when u connect to a service, it's like 3+x hops, and the 'x' is basically a 50%chance to add another hop until u reach the service. this makes it random. nobody knows if they are just another hop, entry or exitnode because it's fully random if u're going for 3 hops or for 8 - and u can't examine it. at the same time the reply of the server will take another route than your request - so u can't connect these datas as well. AND as many of the relay nodes are kind of mirrors at the same time, u can't even easily determine which relay is actually a service hosting server. - but obviously it adds alot of overhead, which makes the connection pretty slow compared to TOR - and it's not really made for accessing the public net as well. oh and also it fragments everything into tiny fixed sized packets thus u can't even get any correlating data (like in TOR u could see a packet, with X bit size, passing through the nodes and u could theoretically statistically trace it - but in I2P there are just endless of identical looking packets running randomly through the mesh)\n\nthat's at least my basic understanding of these two\n\ntl;dr: TOR is basically just a proxychain and I2P fragments everything into fixed sized packets and creates ALOT of 'white noise' which hides pretty much everything, but is quite slow","can_gild":false,"can_mod_post":false,"collapsed":false,"collapsed_because_crowd_control":null,"collapsed_reason":null,"collapsed_reason_code":null,"comment_type":null,"controversiality":0,"created":1783092835,"created_utc":1783092835,"distinguished":null,"downs":0,"edited":false,"gilded":0,"gildings":{},"id":"ovc3jp2","is_submitter":false,"likes":null,"link_author":"PCbuilderFR","link_id":"t3_1uioj8t","link_permalink":"https://www.reddit.com/r/i2p/comments/1uioj8t/most_promising_anonymity_network_between_tor_i2p/","link_title":"Most promising anonymity network between TOR, I2P, FREENET, ZERONET, Lokinet, IPFS, GNUNET, Lethe and Datura network ?","link_url":"https://www.reddit.com/r/i2p/comments/1uioj8t/most_promising_anonymity_network_between_tor_i2p/","locked":false,"mod_note":null,"mod_reason_by":null,"mod_reason_title":null,"mod_reports":[],"name":"t1_ovc3jp2","no_follow":true,"num_comments":29,"num_reports":null,"over_18":false,"parent_id":"t1_oupfuxv","permalink":"/r/i2p/comments/1uioj8t/most_promising_anonymity_network_between_tor_i2p/ovc3jp2/","profile_img":"https://i.redd.it/snoovatar/avatars/02c4c52b-087c-45b4-8cca-99863b505454-headshot.png","profile_over_18":false,"quarantine":false,"removal_reason":null,"replies":"","report_reasons":null,"retrieved_on":1783092854,"saved":false,"score":1,"score_hidden":false,"send_replies":true,"stickied":false,"subreddit":"i2p","subreddit_id":"t5_2s99t","subreddit_name_prefixed":"r/i2p","subreddit_type":"public","top_awarded_type":null,"total_awards_received":0,"treatment_tags":[],"unrepliable_reason":null,"ups":1,"user_reports":[]},{"_meta":{"retrieved_2nd_on":1783600972},"all_awardings":[],"approved_at_utc":null,"approved_by":null,"archived":false,"associated_award":null,"author":"Hot-Percentage-2240","author_flair_background_color":null,"author_flair_css_class":null,"author_flair_richtext":[],"author_flair_template_id":null,"author_flair_text":null,"author_flair_text_color":null,"author_flair_type":"text","author_fullname":"t2_uxyzvaka6","author_is_blocked":false,"author_patreon_flair":false,"author_premium":false,"awarders":[],"banned_at_utc":null,"banned_by":null,"body":"I2p is best if you want to balence speed/usability with anonymity. The problem happens when, maybe due to privacy concerns, two nodes that want to share data can't because neither of them has an open port. In the Ed2k world, there's some terminology that helps: LowID vs HighID. Two LowID nodes can't connect directly to eachother, because neither has an open port. They will literally never share data unless a HighID node comes along, and is willing to grab data from one node and upload it to the other, basically acting like a proxy. The lack of HighID nodes can slow down transfers, or halt them altogether.\n\nMy question is: does I2P solve this problem? In theory, if every torrent node used I2P in mixed mode, then i2p should be able to act as a proxy between two LowID nodes. Yes, I2P benefits from an open port, but because it benefits from a pool of thousands of nodes with open ports, it seems to me that this LowID problem could disappear. \n\nYes, transfers over i2p are slower, but i think overall, it could actually speed up transfers by bridging gaps. It'd have to reach a critical mass first. \n\nUltimately, if everyone ran BT in i2p node (non-mixed), VPNs might not be necessary. Of course you do the hash comparison before that. \n\nIt reaches your server. Maybe you encrypt it, maybe you don't. Maybe you encrypt everything until somebody kidnaps your kid and threatens you into stopping. The user has no way to know, and your promises are worth exactly nothing, even if you're sincere.\n\nAs you point out--\n\n> Encrypt it yourself beforehand or don't use the service. \n\nWhich is, of course, exactly what the pedos will do. Definitely some of them. Probably most of them. I would *guess* almost all of them. And definitely any who are producing or selling the content, or trading it around at scale. Any \"major\" pedos who *don't* get into that habit will quickly get arrested and weeded out of the potential user pool. \n\nIf you allow encrypted files that you can't scan, then you *will* be hosting \"terabytes of child porn\".\n\nIf you can't accept that fact, then you're in the wrong business.\n\nIf you're *actually serious* about stopping the pedos, or even slowing them down very much, you will have to refuse to accept any file you think is encrypted. If you don't do that, then your whole scanning edifice will have no positive effect. Just a meaningless performance on your part. Meaningless performances may have their place, but not when you trumpet them in your headline feature list.\n\nNow, naive users who don't have as good OPSEC as the average pedo won't encrypt. So if you're not encrypting for them, and doing it third-party-auditably, then they're at risk... especially if you've also built an easily repurposed scanning infrasctructure with its own attack surface.\n\nIf you care about *those* people, which you should since you're supposedly offering them a service, you should be going in the opposite direction and trying to do everything you can to *encourage* auditable client-side encryption. Probably including rejecting files you can't verify *are* encrypted. Even then, you should also probably have an encrypting client to boot. Obviously nobody should rely on that client either, but it would be slightly more verifiable than doing it server-side, and it would provide a backstop for users who slipped up.\n\nSince you were crowing about how effective your scanning was, I *assumed* you were serious about it, which would mean you were rejecting all (detectably) encrypted data.\n\nIf you're *not* rejecting encrypted data, you have no business making a big deal out of your scanning. And also, if you're not *rejecting* encrypted data, you should be doing everything in your power to *force* data to be encrypted. Not just \"at rest\", either.\n\nThere's no room for middle ground. Make sure everything is encrypted, or make sure nothing is encrypted. Which path have you chosen? And if you choose the path of *effective* scanning, then what are you doing on an anonymity network?\n\n> Not sure what you're talking about with the \"files contain the owners identity\" part, you'd have to be a real idiot to upload a photo with EXIF data or something lol.\n\nWhat about a photo of their *face*? That's identifying in 2025. Not \"identifying if somebody gets lucky\", not \"could confirm their identity\", not \"identifying if somebody does a big investigation\". Straight up identifying, with nothing but a database search, for a *huge* proportion of the faces *in the world*.\n\nWhat about photos of the area around their house? Locating those is almos completely automated now.\n\nYou don't need the EXIF. The image itself is enough. You can often identify the specific *camera* from the image as well.\n\nWhat about a Word document with their name in it (text or metadata)? What about some long manifesto they've written that can be run through stylometry? What about mentioning having been in place X at time Y, or providing a photo taken there.\n\nFiles *other than piracy* typically contain identifying information in the *content*. In the metadata *too*, but it's the content that can't really be fixed.\n\nYes, if you think that you'll only be used to host stolen media instead of child porn, you don't have to worry (too much) about people being identified from the content. But if that's all you're good for, then you're not really doing much to improve the world, are you?","can_gild":false,"can_mod_post":false,"collapsed":false,"collapsed_because_crowd_control":null,"collapsed_reason":null,"collapsed_reason_code":null,"comment_type":null,"controversiality":0,"created":1766768741,"created_utc":1766768741,"distinguished":null,"downs":0,"edited":false,"gilded":0,"gildings":{},"id":"nw1sg8l","is_submitter":false,"likes":null,"link_id":"t3_1pv6d2x","locked":false,"mod_note":null,"mod_reason_by":null,"mod_reason_title":null,"mod_reports":[],"name":"t1_nw1sg8l","no_follow":false,"num_reports":null,"parent_id":"t1_nw1gexn","permalink":"/r/i2p/comments/1pv6d2x/dropi2p_v2_major_release/nw1sg8l/","removal_reason":null,"replies":"","report_reasons":null,"retrieved_on":1766768755,"saved":false,"score":0,"score_hidden":false,"send_replies":true,"stickied":false,"subreddit":"i2p","subreddit_id":"t5_2s99t","subreddit_name_prefixed":"r/i2p","subreddit_type":"public","top_awarded_type":null,"total_awards_received":0,"treatment_tags":[],"unrepliable_reason":null,"ups":0,"user_reports":[]},{"_meta":{"retrieved_2nd_on":1762471784},"all_awardings":[],"approved_at_utc":null,"approved_by":null,"archived":false,"associated_award":null,"author":"xmvu","author_flair_background_color":null,"author_flair_css_class":null,"author_flair_richtext":[],"author_flair_template_id":null,"author_flair_text":null,"author_flair_text_color":null,"author_flair_type":"text","author_fullname":"t2_ljnf95quk","author_is_blocked":false,"author_patreon_flair":false,"author_premium":false,"awarders":[],"banned_at_utc":null,"banned_by":null,"body":"Right.
