its a hyper p@ranoid av from someone that does malware dev avast has kept me up for days even without paying money they  have thins thing called boot-time-scan if u think u have any malware on ur laptop u can let that scan run it runs before u even get to the windows login screen sees everything that boots and kills the threats even doing simple stuff like opening a file can trigger avast to do a deeper scan on the file before allowing u to open it if a process spawns any child processing it kills the whole program and sends it to there servers and if it deems safe they allow u to open it and so much more information very gd av and wit a proper user i believe its gunna be very hard for threats to get threw but theirs a rule in cyber security one a code is running at user level on the laptop its wraps so ye the best defense is not even running the malware but avast is a gd thing to rely on and also in every process it injects its own dll to watch over everything it does its no fair lol engine in all of these.  \n\nI believe that Avira still uses its own engine for the time being, but presumably it will be replaced with the Avast engine at some point, like when the licenses to With the possible exception of Avira, they all use Avast's detection engine, so the level of the protection they provide is going to be pretty much the same.\n\nJust because an antivirus is free does not mean it provides a lower-level of protection than a paid-for offering.  \n\n-----\n\n\nAs far as actual antivirus/antimalware/internet security/security suite/endpoint protection (etc. etc. etc.) programs go, there is no one \"best\" program, as each has its plusses and minuses.  Performance, system resource usage, and detection rates change with every update, and those occur multiple times throughout the day.  Because of this, it does not make much of a difference in detection rate whether a program is free or is paid.  A free program might detect something before the most expensive program, simply because it received an update first.\n\nThat said, any of the programs listed in the wiki at https://old.reddit.com/r/antivirus/wiki/index#wiki_anti-virus_.28aka_anti-malware.29_developers would be a good starting place to find what is **best for you**.  It also lists the countries each developer is headquartered in.\n\nStart by searching the *OS Support?* to find out which developers make security software for your device's operating system.
