Fremont is safe but does have car break ins and property damage.  It has the #5 bus that runs every 15-20 minutes to downtown and to the baseball and football stadiums.  No traffic you can be in downtown in 20 min. Lower Fremont has restaurants and some bars with live music.  Fremont is in the middle of a bunch of other neighborhoods.  5-10 minutes drive you are in Ballard, Greenwood, Green Lake or Phinney.  There are several good supermarkets close by.
